Preparing for the Day

We will meet at The Local Food Kitchen at 989c Matakana Road, at 10am sharp. Chef will briefly go through introductions and explain such local initiatives as the local Greenswap concept over locally roasted coffee and morning tea. From The Local Food Kitchen we will head across the road to the famous Matakana Village Farmer’s Market . There you will meet some of the local producers, learn about the provenance of some of our local food products and enjoy at least 6 food tastings. The choice of products will vary on seasonal availability. Next it will be across to another local community initiative - our Matakana Community garden. From the community garden it will be off to enjoy a visit to some of our local food producers. The number and the time at each site depends on the season and the availability of product. We do however expect there to be a minimum of 2 food producers along with one wine tasting. Products could include cider, organic icecream, feijoas, fish, smoked salmon, homemade gelato, chocolate and/or oysters - as these are the products that are not always available at the local Farmers market. At the completion of the tour a light cafe-style lunch with an accompanying glass of Matakana wine will be served, followed by local ice-cream.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:
- The programme for the day begins promptly at 10 am
- Wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet for much of the day.
- We can help with accommodation for any people wishing to stay in Matakana overnight.
